Areas of Work

Council of Europe: Human Rights & Justice

We collaborate with experts in engaging with international institutions, committees and rapporteurs to advocate for a greater respect for human rights, and justice in the case for those who have faced repression by state forces. In particular, we mainly focus on the implementation of judgements of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), such as in the case of Ă–calan v. Turkey (2).

Building peace and democracy from the grassroots

We understand peace not simply as the absence of war, but the creation of an environment in which diversity and coexistence between peoples flourish. This is possible through the creation of democratic, ethical and political societies. Our approach thus focuses on the grassroots, in building communal practices of participatory democracy and organization.

Freedom in Kurdistan, the Middle East

The political resolution of the Kurdish question in Turkey, as a core historical conflict and Gordian knot underpinning many contemporary political and social issues, would have a broader positive impact in contributing to the democratization of the Turkish Republic. As the Kurdistan is divided between four contemporary nation-states, such successes could also spark similar processes for peace and democratization in neighboring countries of Iraq, Syria, and Iran.
